a style of architecture based on the work and writing of the Classically-inspired Italian Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio (1508-1580). Palladio's ideas were widely adopted throughout Europe in ensuing centuries, most notably in 17th and 18th-century England. The best-known Palladian motif is the arched window flanked by two smaller, square-headed openings.
